Giovanni Rubio It is with great sadness to share the news that our dear friend, brother, founder and fundamental foundation of our mission has passed away. Brother Giovanni passed away from Covid on March 2nd. He leaves behind a wife, mother of 2 and legacy that will endure for decades.
Giovanni understand the children at The Casa very well. At the age of 5, he and his brother left their home in Morelia, alone, and took a bus to Acapulco. They lived on the streets alone and decided to survive on their own. In doing so, at this young age, they became cliff divers to earn money.
Giovanni had a love for history and a photographic memory. He embraced the history of Mexico, Morelia and various religions namely Catholicism. His grasp of names, dates, and research was at the foundation of his skills. At the age of 8, he befriended a couple in Acapulco wanting a tour of the city. He and his brother became very knowledgeable of the city and provided guided tours for tourists. One such couple they gave a tour to asked many questions over a few days/weeks and determined to provide him and his brother a home in Canada. It was there he learned 7 languages, became a chef and earned multiple degrees.
BUT, it was his love for Morelia that drew him back to his home town. He continued to study but the history of Mexico became the basis for his career, Tourism. He was very well known by the leader of various cities in the surrounding areas and made his living by partnering with the various Hotels to provide personalized guided tours for visitors to Morelia. His grasp of history made him the perfect selection for hotels to represent them and the quality of his tours was unsurpassed.
It was on a tour of Morelia and surrounding areas with Giovanni the founding members of Beloved Youth Moving Forward heard his vision for helping orphans. Victoria Hunter took the conversation, developed a business plan and over 1 month, Bymovingforward.org was established. The basic foundation was discussed, non profit formed and meeting with Maestra Sandra was agreed upon.
It was the cumulative ideas, concepts and overreaching idea of Giving to those in need that we are here today. A simple conversation. A simple idea. Simplicity at the core has led to this blessing for all us due to a “guided tour” with an amazing person leading us to the point. We are Blessed to be able to carry the “torch” on behalf of our friend and brother. We will not fail but prevail in making lives better for the youth. Thank you Brother, we will not let you down!! God Bless You…….
